Discover Hanging Gardens Mediterranean Food

Walking into Hanging Gardens Mediterranean Food feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot where everyone is welcome and nobody is rushed. I first stopped by on a late afternoon after a long drive through Sun City, and the place immediately stood out for its relaxed vibe and the comforting aroma of grilled meats and warm spices. Located at 10050 W Bell Rd #8, Sun City, AZ 85351, United States, it’s easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, but once you’re inside, it quickly becomes the kind of restaurant you remember.

The menu leans heavily into classic Mediterranean staples, and that’s where this diner really shines. You’ll find familiar favorites like shawarma, falafel, gyros, and hummus, but everything tastes thoughtfully prepared rather than rushed. On my first visit, I ordered a chicken shawarma plate, and the meat was marinated long enough to stay juicy without overpowering the natural flavor. The balance reminded me of what food researchers often point out about Mediterranean cooking: it relies on herbs, olive oil, and simple preparation methods rather than heavy sauces, which studies from organizations like the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health link to both flavor and health benefits.

What really impressed me was the process behind the food. You can see the staff slicing meat fresh and assembling plates to order, which matches what many professional chefs recommend for maintaining texture and taste in Mediterranean cuisine. A friend of mine, who spent years working in restaurant kitchens, joined me on a later visit and commented on how consistently the dishes came out, even during a busy dinner rush. Consistency like that usually reflects solid kitchen systems and experienced hands, not shortcuts.

The portions are generous without feeling wasteful, a balance that a lot of diners appreciate, judging by the reviews posted online. Many locals mention that they come back weekly, which says a lot in an area with no shortage of dining options. One review described the food as authentic comfort, and another highlighted fresh ingredients, both phrases that line up with my own experience. It’s not fancy dining, but it doesn’t pretend to be. Instead, it focuses on doing a few things very well.

Service plays a big role here too. The staff are friendly in a genuinely casual way, happy to explain menu items if you’re not familiar with Mediterranean terms. On one visit, I watched a server walk a first-time customer through the difference between gyro meat and shawarma, breaking it down simply without any pressure. That kind of interaction builds trust, especially for people trying something new.

From an industry perspective, Mediterranean restaurants have grown steadily in popularity across the U.S., according to data from the National Restaurant Association, largely because diners are looking for meals that feel both satisfying and balanced. Hanging Gardens fits neatly into that trend while still feeling personal. It’s clearly designed for the local community rather than chasing food fads.

The location itself is convenient, especially if you’re running errands nearby or meeting friends for a casual meal. Parking is straightforward, and the dining area is clean and comfortable, though it can get lively during peak hours. That’s probably the only limitation worth mentioning: if you come during the dinner rush, a short wait isn’t unusual. Still, the turnover is quick, and most people seem to agree it’s worth it.

Over multiple visits, what keeps pulling me back is the reliability. Whether it’s a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner, the food tastes the same every time, and the atmosphere stays welcoming. In a dining scene where consistency can be hard to find, this Mediterranean diner manages to deliver honest food, friendly service, and a sense of place that feels real rather than manufactured.

  • If I could give 10 stars, I WOULD! This place is phenomenal! From the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out, you receive the most exceptional customer service you could ask for. And the food, my goshhh, the FOOD. It is SO flavorful, so tasty, drool worthy, & cooked to absolute perfection. I ordered the Chicken Tikka plate and it came with the best lentil soup, the most flavorful rice & hummus w/ pita bread, and a pico-like salad. You could order it as a half order and it’s still so filling. I got the full order not realizing how much food it came with, and thankfully had another meal to look forward to for leftovers! We dined in last Friday night and had the pleasure of meeting some of the staff/family, and getting the opportunity to talk with the owner (Esho); he is just the sweetest, most genuine man you could meet. He was so easy and delightful to talk to, and gave endless compliments about how cute our babies were. It was an extremely memorable and positive experience, and I seriously cannot wait to go back! The pricing was superb, the food was so flavorful, and the atmosphere was just lovely all around. Esho and his family know how to run a successful business, and we look forward to continue being loyal customers to this business! Thank you again, from our family to yours!

  • First time there. Friday at 4:30. Place was slow. Very clean and updated. Order at counter, food delivered to your table. Self service for your drinks. Decent selection on menu. I had the beef kabob plate with rice, very good. Came with hummus and pita bread, pretty good. Lentil soup also. Wife had gyros, pretty good. Overall nice clean efficient place with good food. I will be back

  • Kicking myself for not trying this place sooner!! Only good things to say about our experience here. Wonderful people, incredible prices, amazing lentil soup while you wait, and absolutely delicious food. The chicken itself is definitely the best I’ve had, very moist and tender and the seasoning was so good. Portions are huge, we got the smaller sizes and still didn’t finish it all. Love the atmosphere as well, you feel like you’re having lunch with good friends. You have to try it!

  • Wow, how have I never been here before?! This place rocks! The mesquite cooking really adds a great flavor to the meats. I got the meat combo plate and my partner got the chicken shawarma plate. Both came with some tasty lentil soup, and the portions were great! We got some baklava too and it was just perfect. We will 100% be back!

  • Really good Mediterranean restaurant, clean and great customer service. The free Lentil soup is delicious. Pita bread was good. The Kafta kabobs were huge and delicious, moist with just right amount of char. Rice was good, hummus was also really good. Cucumber, onion, tomato salad was delicious. Pomegranate juice also good. Looking forward to visiting again.

  • Update May 2025 The beef shawarma was delicious and I really like the addition of the counter/bar and selection of beers they have added! Update Jan. 2025 Tried the 1/2 size beef kafta and it was delicious. Still includes that delicious lentil soup which is so comforting on a chilly AZ night! Update Nov. 2024 Just went for some baklava: heavenly! Not overly sweet and soggy like so many places. See pic and start drooling. Friend had the burger and said it was good, but didn't care for the bun and will stick to the Mediterranean meats which had it beat. Update: Oct., 2024 Had delicious 1/2 portion mesquite grilled shawarma, yogurt drink, and complimentary yellow lentil soup: delicious! Fun watching the owner interact so pleasantly with customers, answering questions and describing food. His son and daughter were helping out too, so it was a very warm and friendly atmosphere. New signs point out that gyros are now available. ***** Tasty, healthy Mediterranean cuisine at fair prices served up by people eager to please and answer your questions. Items cooked over a mesquite charcoal grill just taste better as it imparts a distinct smoky layer that just can't be mimicked, so even if you just want a burger this is the place. I'd never had a marinated eggplant salad before, but it was sure good, and my friend was very pleased with the colorful Greek salad. The chicken tikka was deliciously mesquity, and we loved our hummus and baba ghanoush artistically plated with fresh pita wedges arranged like star points, and tabouli served with stuffed grape leaves. We were surprised by a complimentary serving of lentil soup that was pure comfort in a bowl. There is a wide selection of menu items to try a la carte or as a meal so be adventurous and try something new and order some more to take home. However, I wish styrofoam wasn't the to-go option since such fare deserves a healthier, classier, and more Earth-friendly option.

  • Very good lentil soup. The chicken I had was ok, I really enjoyed the rice. Next time I'll try the shawarma but wanted to try something different. Hummus and tzatziki sauce were just ok. The value was outstanding. The large portion meal with soup was just $14.99! I honestly would suggest the owner raise prices. This is the best value in town by far.

  • Option for full or mini versions of each entree. Great food and clean restaurant, the staff was also extremely kind and helped us select a variety of meals to try. Everything was exceptional!
